I spent three years in Budapest managing the design and construction of the new Budapest Arena. This multipurpose hall replaced a previous arena which had burned down. Budapest was in the running for the 2012 Olympics and wanted to revamp and rebuild their sports facilities in order to put in their bid as a host city.
The Budapest Arena is located in a historically “sporty” part of the city. Our site offices were surrounded by over-scaled Soviet style sculptures of strong men and women competing. I worked on the design brief and construction plan with Bouygues Batiment, the owner-operator for this facility. I also worked with Pricewaterhouse Coopers (PWC) to assess the designs and programme for the arena for potential investment.
